PIMLICO PLUMBERS REPORTS RECORD REVENUES AND INCREASES WORKFORCE READY FOR WINTER.

November 9, 2011

Pimlico Plumbers, the UK’s largest independent plumbing company, has reported increased record revenues for September 2011 and expanded its workforce in preparation for the autumn/winter period.
The Central London-based company recruited an additional 20 plumbers and heating engineers to its workforce of 156 tradespeople during the summer ahead of the recent drop in temperature, which was the first indication of expected winter weather conditions.
Pimlico Plumbers achieved record sales in September 2011, a substantial 12.5 percent (£161,000) up on last year. This success is partly due to the growth of the company’s building works division with a number of projects being completed in September.
With the expansion of its workforce the company has been able to increase capacity to service the number of plumbing and heating jobs in the Capital, which is forecast to increase during the coming months. Year-on-year the number of winter call outs has grown at Pimlico Plumbers.
For example, in December 2010, the company broke its record for daily and weekly call outs servicing 500 jobs on a single day (up from 440) and, in the first week of December, completed a record 2,017 jobs (up from 1,930)
In addition to its larger pool of skilled tradespeople, Pimlico Plumbers has also increased productivity through improved processes including GPS vehicle tracking.
Charlie Mullins, Managing Director of Pimlico Plumbers, said: “September was an exceptional month for the business and justified our diversification into other home property services such as building works and electrics. Our reputation has enabled us to enter these markets with immediate customer confidence in our services.
"All in all, things are looking pretty promising for us, with the total annual sales for our financial year to date running £314,000, around 7 percent, ahead of where we were going in to last winter. And while I can't do anything about the conditions the country is going to be faced with in the coming months, I am starting to feel that we have a better and bigger team in the company this time round and we are in pretty good shape to take whatever the season throws at us.”
Charlie added: “This is the time of year for plumbers when we feel like we’re under starters’ orders for the winter period. Based on the last few winters where we were stretched to our limits by the effects of bad weather on the Capital’s heating and plumbing systems, we’ve had to increase capacity in the business.
“We began recruiting for the autumn/winter period in early summer and, because of the high levels of unemployment, we have been inundated with unsolicited applications. Our HR team have been able to sign up the 20 engineers we required from a pool of more than 600 applications.”
