I read the following quote this morning, and I was astounded!
"We have a social responsibility, because if this inequality increases in income distribution or wealth distribution we may have a social time bomb ticking and no-one wants to have that."
And the reason why was, believe it or not, this came from the mouth of a banker. Josef Ackermann, to be exact, the Chief Executive of Deutsche Bank.
This fella gets paid millions, currently he's in line for a 'partially deferred' £6.6 million bonus, and while he doesn't speak about his philanthropic giving, it seems he does like to share the wealth. This tells me a couple of things; not only is he nothing like our pin-striped bandits, and by that I mean he has a conscience. But also, if he's typical of German bankers, threats that the City's big hitters could go elsewhere are grossly overstated since the culture on Mr Ackermann's ship would appear quite alien to them. In fact it sounds very much like he wouldn't employ the greedy bastards!
