Max Clifford Celebrity Golf Challenge 2010

The Max Clifford Celebrity Golf Challenge has become the most prestigious and highly anticipated event in the Rhys Daniels Trust fundraising Calendar.

This year, 2010, was the special 10th anniversary of the Golf Challenge and it proved to be the most extraordinary event so far with celebrity players including, Bobby Davro, James Hewitt, Canadian Snooker player Kirk Stevens and actors Johnny Briggs, Joe Swash, Craig Fairbrass and Chris Simmons.

The event was held at the stunning and luxurious La Cala Resort in Mijas Costa, Marbella and the 36 hole tournament took place over two days where 39 teams competed for the very sought after Rhys and Charly trophy.

Pimlico entered two teams into this year’s competition headed up by Charlie Mullins, Managing Director and Scott Mullins, Operations Director. Each team was also joined by a celebrity, Pimlico team 1 had Bobby Davro and Pimlico team 2 included Joe Swash.

‘I have got to say what nice and down to earth fellas both our celebrity team members were. Bobby's Davro's a great entertainer and a great golfer and even though I can't say the same about Joe Swash's golfing skills he's definitely a very funny and talented actor,’ says Charlie Mullins.

This event was not just about golfing; the practice day of golf was followed by a welcome dinner with celebrity entertainment from comedian Stan Boardman, Kenny Lynch and Becki Tate on the La Cala Golf Club Terrace. The first day of the golf challenge was followed by lunch and evening entertainment. And the second and final day of the golfing tournament concluded with the glitzy Butterfly Ball and prize giving ceremony hosted by Mike Osman at the Hotel Puente Romano. The entertainment included performances from comedians Frank Carson and Bobby Davro and singers Stephen Lloyd-Morgan with the Marbella Concert Orchestra and Tee Green.

Money raised from the 2010 event for the Rhys Daniels Trust: £50,000

‘The whole weekend of golfing, charity lunches and dinners, raised a lot of money for the Rhys Daniels Trust. Well done to Max Clifford who always makes this a second to none event and his closing speech at the Butterfly is always highly anticipated and makes everyone’s night. Barry Daniels never fails to put on a fantastic weekend that each year goes from strength to strength and he always makes the best out of what was a very desperate and devastating situation for him and the rest of his family,’ says Charlie.
