Pimlico is pleased to sponsor the Cray Wanderers Junior Football Club.
Cray Wanderers is an English semi-professional football club based in South London. Cray is recognised as the second oldest football club in the world, established in the year 1860. The Cray first team play their home matches in Hayes lane and share the ground with Bromley FC. The stadium has a capacity of 6,000 (3,000 seated), and will be renamed the Courage Stadium. The Cray Wanderers first team currently play in the Isthmian League Premier Division.
Cray Wanderers have teams in the younger age groups starting at under 8’s and going right through to the Academy youth team for 16-18 year olds. The Club Academy gives an opportunity of full time training and a chance of success in a sporting career whilst still offering an educational route. The Academy competed in the Isthmian youth league in the
2009-10 season, finishing an impressive 2nd place.
Pimlico's involvement with the Cray Wanderers Junior Club goes beyond just purely sponsoring the club. Scott Mullins, Pimlico's Operations Director and son of Charlie Mullins, is manager of the club's under 16's team that play in the Kent Youth League (North).
Brian Bernal Right back (U16s):
"I joined the club last season. The club has developed me into a better and more solid defender as well as an attacking full back. Cray is in the Kent youth league (North) and I have noticed that the league is quite challenging, which has some very talented young players. I have noticed that as the weeks and months go by there is always development from the players. The clubs manager, Scott Mullins, is a very friendly and easy going manager. I feel like I can come to him when I have any football related problems or maybe have a suggestion to improve the team. He is always willing to listen to the opinions of his players, and take on board the advice."
Junior Evbota, Centre-Back (U16s Captain):
"I have been playing for Cray for approximately a year and a half, joining at the end of 2009. I thoroughly enjoy playing for Cray and I’m extremely proud to represent them as club captain. One of the more obvious things I have noticed during my time here is the intensity of the league. It’s a league with very athletic and physical teams, who play with a very high tempo, and it was quite a step up for me as I came from the Saturday League. However, thanks to the support of my manager, Scott Mullins, all the other coaches, and my teammates I was able to adapt very quickly and settle in very well. I’m very excited for the upcoming season as we are signing some impressive new players and have looked very strong in our recent pre-season friendly matches. I am very confident that we can add a trophy to our trophy cabinet this season, and perform extremely well in the league, the sky is the limit!"
Will Slater Center Midfield (U16’s):
"This will be my third season at Cray, and since I have been here I feel I have become a much more capable player, as I used to play for tandridge C division side. I trialed and got as in as a center back, but Scott and the rest of the managers (Nick and Rick) turned me into a central midfielder, and improved my game massively. I enjoy playing for Cray as I can have a laugh with the managers and players, as well as do well in the league. With the newly added members Cray have acquired, I believe we could achieve a lot this upcoming season."
Ernie Weisbrod All Rounder (U16’s):
"I joined Cray about 2 years ago; we just won the Bexley A League and got promoted to the Kent League.
The club’s manager Scott Mullins loves a joke and is easy going and not forgetting Nick and Ricky who are essential to the team’s background staff. This year I hope we can win the league and I’m very confident we can finish better than last year-as my team mate Junior says ‘the sky is the limit’."
U16 squad Information:
The under 16 squad trains twice a week, usually on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. During winter and autumn seasons, the under 16 squad trains in Mottingham on Tuesdays, and on Thursday at Elmers End. However, during the pre-season summer and spring periods, they train at Eden Park.
